Independence

Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands with its own distinct dialect. The islands official language is Catalan and Castillano. Catalan is the historical language of the semi autonomous Spanish community of Catalonia on the Spanish peninsula where 40% of people speak it. Some Catalan people are politically active in trying to restore independence for their region as a seperate nation from the rest of Spain. However, few 'Balears' consider that Catalonia has any claim on their islands, and prefer to stay 'Spanish'. Spain still sees strong regional loyalties in Catalonia and Pais Vasco, which has often lead to violence. This young lad was playing war games with his friend in Palma.
