It was Semana Santa - Holy week - or Easter, and in many of the churches are stored these large statues featuring crucifixion scenes. During this week these heavy wooden sculptures and tableaux are carried on the shoulders of many worshippers in almost all the towns in Spain. In many places worshipers form huge processions lasting all night and many are conducted in silence.
