Las Carreras de Caballos

At Easter, in a town close to Caceres in the Extremadura region of Spain, I went to a terrific festival. Along a narrow crowded street pairs of riders gallop their horses, sending the crowds dodging for cover. With the typical lack of any health and safety measures which you might expect in the UK, this wonderful festival is just as much about the prowess of the riders as the common sense of the audience not to get in the way.

My wife was almost moved to tears by this little boy riding with such determination and the show of pride on his fathers face.
