WHITEWALL thecentre:mk's professional arts space Justin Neal, artist and founder of Milton Keynes Contemporary, established WHITEWALL in July 2006, to offer artists the opportunity to exhibit in Central Milton Keynes to the professional standards of the best exhibition venues in the region. Exhibitions were originally curated from artists who showed a uniqueness, vision and talent and whose work was suitable for exhibition in one of the UK's busiest shopping centres. thecentre:mk supported the project financially for 3 years. The advantages of working on a project with Milton Keynes Contemporary were the development opportunities for artists. Artists were asked to consider how they could adapt their practice and themes to offer exhibitions, site specific or public art installations at the venue. Projects could be based on existing work, new work or records of site specific projects produced off site. The exhibition space was not a selling venue, more a project designed to create stimulating and critical debate. For each exhibition WHITEWALL gave each artist development funding of up to £3000, and published a catalogue of the work. The catalogues featured images from the exhibition and include text on the work by respected professionals, writers, journalists and critics. The catalogues formed part of the project’s ongoing support of artists development and exhibition, as well as access to contemporary art by a wide audience. The catalogues are available for purchase from this website. Justin Neal and Milton Keynes Contemporary finished managing WHITEWALL in July 2009. This page features an archive list of all the exhibitions, and links to the featured artists sites. Justin Neal WHITEWALL Project Manager July 2006 - July 2009 | ||||||||
